It seems that password theft is up. I’m not sure this is a surprise to anyone who reads this site, but it is so much easier than it used to be with all of the malware out there, better compute platforms, botnets, phishing, etc. It has gotten to the point where I have had to start using a password manager, simply due to the sheer number of passwords I need to track and the complexity rules I choose to use implementing passwords. This partial image is from an infographic mentioned on TechRepublic that hit my inbox today.
While the image doesn’t provide a lot of technical information, it might be a good item to post anywhere you have a security awareness bulletin board. It may point out things to those who don’t deal with this on a daily basis.
I would also like to point out that it’s basically an ad for a product called PasswordGenie, which I have never used or even looked at. This is not an endorsement for a product. I’m looking at it as a simple to understand graphic that illustrates how vulnerable our passwords are and that using the same password on multiple servers/services/whatever is just making it easier to get compromised on many fronts.
