First off, I’d like to thank Yanick for the great presentation. It’s been a while since I looked at new features in perl and I’m inspired to install 5.12 and start utilizing all of the stuff that’s now available. Who knows, might be some good thinks for the $DAYJOB hiding in there. I did ask for a copy of the slides and as soon as I get them, I’ll post them to the download section.
Update: Yanick has posted the link for the slides, in the format they were presented to the group. You can get the presentation on his site.
Another item I mentioned at the meeting was VMware’s ESXi training offer. You can find more details on the VMware Community Blog. The short story is that they give you a free three hour session on ESXi 4.1 and after completing it and filling out a short survey, you get an ebook on planning, deployment and security. Check the link for full details.
As we are all aware, the next meeting will not be at Pythian, so we will most likely end up somewhere in Bells Corners. I’ll be looking for a location over the next couple of weeks. If anyone knows of a free room we could use somewhere, let me know. I’m pretty sure I can find a room somewhere, but if there is something already available, why not use it? Worst case is getting party area at a bar or restaurant. The plus side is we would have running snacks and drinks. Worst case is we would have to buy something.
