This was the final meeting on the sparc emulation series. We got to the point where we have the ability to install packages from a third party repository and installed some “modern” versions of community software.
The coordination challenges persisted, but everybody was involved and there
were only a few issues to deal with. Success is measured one sudo at a time in
this case, since that was the last thing we installed.
As stated last month, we will look at a few simple tools for home labs and get back to building, documenting and automating things in our home lab environments starting with the next meeting.
I’ll write up the whole exercise and make it available for future reference. It is far from a perfect and secure environment, but there is no intent to connect the system to the internet and it is just for fun/educational purposes. I might go so far as to do the same thing with the real hardware just as a comparison. That depends on my near future activities. It may be delayed quite a while.
