Actually, a general question about firewalling/monitoring. I used to
use a program named “portsentry” which would monitor all of the ports
on a firewall, and in the event that it detected a port-scan, would do
two things. It would add the remote IP to the hosts.deny file, and it
would deny any further packets from that host destined to the
firewall. It was amazing to see the number of hosts that it would
catch in a 24 hour period.

Hi! Being a new comer to this list, I thought it might be prudent to
find out more information about the group, board, and meeting times.
>From the Yahoo Groups! archives, it doesn’t look like the list is
all
that busy… And the last mention of the OVSAGE board was in
1999-ish, has it changed much?
In case anyone’s interested, here’s a little bit about myself. I’m a
recent graduate from the University of Guelph, and moved to Ottawa in
May 2000. I’m currently employed by e-smith, Inc, as a Senior
Software Developer. I’m a member of both USENIX and SAGE, as well as
OCLUG.
