Date: 20130516

Description: It’s April and there is still snow on the ground.
Thanks Ottawa weather!
Topics this month:
- NAS devices, specifically the synology units
- smart watches… useful?
- monitoring tools and agents
- other oddities as usual
If there are new people, look for a gaggle of people that may have
laptops or tablets out and there will likely be a set of crutches
nearby.
Title: March Meeting 2013
Location: Tim Horton’s, 660 Eagleson Rd, Kanata

Description: Time to get together and celebrate the wheels in your
head make that quarter-turn and move forward. We have lost an hour until
fall and are possibly still suffering for it.
We have a number of oddball topics this month:
- Compiling statically linked binaries to create “future-proof”
support tools (sure they are)
- Fun and games in document generation - take it away Bruce!
- Generating reports with web pages and other miscellaneous items
(tools for the document haters)
- Using MarkDown as a documentation tool - easier than one would think
- Multi-boot with a raspberry pi
Could be interesting. As always, there will be a variety of unrelated
conversation, arcane references and conversations that will fill your
trivia buffers to overflowing.
Title: February Meeting 2013
Location: Tim Horton’s, 660 Eagleson Rd, Kanata

Description: The location will be the Tim Horton’s on Eagleson.
The location we have been meeting at regularly for the last year or
two. The Tim Horton’s in Bells Corners turned out to be a
dissapointment due to a very small interior.
Topics:
- How about what are people working on?
- What seems to be the growing trends?
- Will we still be employable in 5 years?
Other topics welcome.
For those who haven’t heard me talking about it, we are having an
“unconference” at Shopify’s headquarters on February 9th
It is an open event any anybody is welcome to come out and see what
user groups we have in the region. You can visit the site
at

UGC 2013:
- Drop in to our free relaxed one day unconference.
- Meet some of the many technical User Groups in Ottawa.
- Chat with fellow high tech workers, and students.
- Meet with some of the most tech-friendly local companies.
Why would we do this?
Not everyone knows about all the user groups - the user groups are doing
very interesting stuff and sometimes complementary things that would
benefit from knowledge of the topics in other user groups. We want to
get these doers in the same room together where they can collaborate
with and learn from each other.
